Course Syllabus

  1. TITLE OF COURSE: CSZ1701 MCA/Microsoft Outlook
  2. COURSE DESCRIPTION: : One credit hour lecture class. The course provides instruction on integrated software that manages time and information, including email, tasks, calendars. Students learn to quickly search communications, organize work, and better share information with others. Students build technology skills in combination with working on realistic projects and critical-thinking assignments. It builds technology skills and reinforces writing and critical-thinking abilities, culminating assessments require software mastery and independent problem-solving . For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.
  3. PROGRAM AND/OR DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the Administrative Professionals program is consistent with the mission of Seward County Community College/Area Technical School. The program will provide students with quality learning opportunities and experiences to meet the diverse, changing needs for the development of better futures.

  5. SCCC/ATS OUTCOMES: Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to fulfill the following SCCC/ATS Outcomes:
    Outcome #1- Read with comprehension, be critical of what they read, and apply knowledge gained to real life situations.
    Outcome #2 & #3-Communicate ideas clearly and proficiently in writing and speaking, appropriately adjusting content and arrangements for varying audiences, purposes and situations.

  6. COURSE OUTCOMES: Upon acceptable completion of the course competencies and an average of mailable on performance assessments and 85 percent or higher on objective assessments, the student will be able to:

    B. Manage mail with folders
    C. Process messages with rules
    D. Use calendar for scheduling appointments and events and sharing and viewing calendars
    E. Manage meetings
    F. Manage contacts
    G. Create and manage tasks and notes
    H. Work with categories and data files

    A. Compose, send, open, print messages; reply to, forward, and delete messages
    B. Attach a file to a message; use address book
    C. Personalize messages
    D. Work with automated replies
    E. Use advanced message options including sensitivity and importance levels and flags and delivery and read receipts and delaying message’s delivery
    F. Work with voting options and security settings
    G. Locate messages
    H. Deal with spam
    I. Create, move, delete, restore folders
    J. Use rule templates; create, manage, and edit rules
    K. Create, modify, send, receive contacts
    L. Create and modify a distribution list
    M. Use electronic business cards
    N. Creating secondary address book
    O. Manage appointments and events
    P. Create, modify, and manage a meeting
    Q. Customize, share, view calendars
    R. Create, modify, complete, assign tasks
    S. Work with categories and data files

    C. Measurement of SCCC/ATS Outcomes will be assessed through project assignments, examinations, and demonstration of workplace basic skills in working with others, attendance and punctuality, etc.
